Douche

Or, as some people write it: doosh.

The word has become quite widely-used in recent years, but not a lot of people know much about the word. They just know that it means "scumbag" and saves a whole syllable. The word is an abbreviation of the original - douchebag - but that doesn't matter because the original was a compound of two words: "douche" being French for "shower" and "bag" being a bag. The word came into English when women started taking douches for allegedly health purposes and consisted of rinsing out the vagina.

I see a lot of people getting the spelling wrong as well, but at least everyone understands the meaning: piece of shit, scumbag or otherwise thoroughly revolting person.

And in a complete coincidence, we have discovered New Zealand's douchebag of the year for 2016 and it's only the middle of May! He is a Wellingtonian by the name of Gary Watt.

Here is his story.

Words fail me. What a revolting example of a human being.
