Psychiatry

Well, if ever proof were needed on how absurdly out of date and pathetic treatment of mental illness is in the 21st century, it now exists.

In spades.

I recently took the piss out of Sonny-Bildo for indulging in the centuries-ago discredited "treatment" of cupping.

Sonny-Bildo and the cuppers have nothing on the psych scam, with equally-barbaric "treatments" like electroconvulsive "therapy", or shock treatment, still going on as strongly promising drugs like psilocybin (magic mushrooms) languish on forest floors.

Now, a study has been released showing an even more damning picture of the psychiatric profession:

5.6% of American adults were prescribed bennies in 2013, which I make roughly 1,680,000 people taking this crud.

Benzodiazopines are involved for 30% of prescription overdose deaths in USA - about 9000 stiffs a year - and interestingly, the biggest age group of OD deaths is <64, whereas I'd expect a lot of opiod prescription deaths to be de facto exit bag, and therefore an older demographic.

Also noteworthy that while prescriptions have increased by 30%, the volume of actual bennies prescribed has doubled. That alone should be a sign that addiction is rising.

If antibiotic drugs had made the same lack of progress as psychiatry drugs, we'd all be dead.

Bennies are hideously addictive, and not just to people with addictive personality. Valium and its cousins are so addictive that three weeks on the drug will see you hooked, and these are drugs which cannot even be given up cold turkey, because not reducing the dose in increments can be fatal. Make no mistake, Valium is one of the worst and most dangerous drugs humankind has ever manufactured.

And psychiatrists and doctors are prescribing millions of them a day.
