Christmas 2004 Herald
Still, in 2004, I see letters published identical to those which have been
printed in December every year since I could read - and I'm sure long
beforehand.
Christians bemoaning the loss of the "true" meaning of Christmas.
Given that Christians' "truth" about Christmas and its celebration neatly
coincided with, and then superseded, far older pagan ceremonies, I suggest that
their arrogance in demanding that their vision of facts be the universal one, is
the same arrogance which 200 years ago gave us witch hangings in Salem, and
prior to that, such niceties as The Inquisition.
Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Atheists and Agnostics and many others all have
wildly divergent reasons and ways of celebrating Christmas.
While, as expected, the index and concordance of the bible don't mention
tolerance, it does have a comment on selfishness which I exhort Christians to
study before writing more on the subject: Isaiah 56:11.
