One last thing for a busy day of comment: the cause célèbre. It used to be that the cause was the popular thing, but nowadays it seems that the cause isn't a cause célèbre unless it has celebrities involved.

Which is where it gets stupid.

We had the appallingly boring Lucy Lawless chaining herself to a ship to protest oil exploration, while we now have Sam Neill jumping on the same bandwagon.

How is it these people don't curl up and die with shame at their own hypocrisy?

How many times a year do Sam Neill & Lucy Lawless fly to Los Angeles? Answer: lots.

Flying is known to cause by far the most damaging form of greenhouse emissions, with the gases being pumped directly into the stratosphere, the place where it does the most damage.

But that's ok, because they really, really need that extra million dollars or so to continue their campaigns railing against problems they are causing by their own travels.
