Barack Obama: No, you did Not!

18 May 2014

Barack Obama was elected on the back of a brilliant campaign, featuring his now-famous phrase "Yes we can!"

In the speech Obama coined the phrase, he made a series of promises to the American people, parroting "Yes we can!" as a mantra for how things would change.

Let's have a look at his promises and say "Yes, he did" or No, he didn't".

Right at the start, Obama stated that "This time will be different". Alas, the history of the past seven years has shown that to be a lie, with the New Boss just like the Old Boss. NO new broom sweeping clean, but a copycat brush making the same mistakes as his predecessor.

Then, Obama moves on to some specific promises:

"We will move in a fundamentally new direction." No, you didn't.

"I will end tax breaks for corporations." No, you didn't. But hey, he did cut tax breaks for R&D.

"We will give more pay and support to teachers." No, you didn't. Teachers have lost over 1% in real terms under Obama.

"I will end the war in Iraq and we will finish the job against Al Qaeda." No, you didn't. But you are creating a new generation of terrorists.

"We will restore our standing in the world." No, you didn't.

"We have been warned against giving false hope." How did that work out?

And if the evidence of his broken promises from after selection as the Democrat candidate, weren't enough, you can throw in one from his inauguration address:

"And so, to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born, know that America is a friend of each nation, and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity."

All I can say to that is:
