Asset sales
11 July 2012
As we roll up to the election, and seeing how little difference the asset sales have made to Key's support, I get a deep sense of irony that our cousins in England have reached the stage of privatisation fail that nationalisation is back on the cards.
There is an excellent article in The Guardian on the subject: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/09/tide-turning-against-privatisation
Note that all of the claims National made in selling off our assets are the exact things that have been proven incorrect in UK: spiralling energy costs, lack of infrastructure spending, corrupt practices... you name it, it's already happened in UK.
The sad part of it all is that Charter Schools are very much part of the privatisation process, as signalled by National's erstwhile pal ACT, which wants to privatise all schools.
