A sad day for New Zealand. The day we gave up our sovereignty and our balls.
The day we kow-tow to the mighty Chinese Yuan.
I personally feel that the Green Party and Russel Norman are a huge bunch of twats, but while they might be twats, they are a harmless bunch of twats.
The government of China, on the other hand, is the major country with the worst human rights record. Tibet, Myanmar, North Korea, Nepal, Urumqi, Falun Dafa; the Chinese government has a shocking history of suppressing freedom, wholesale murder, torture and sponsoring extreme regimes in their home region.
Anyone old enough can recall the Tiananmen Square massacre. To add to that, we have massacres in Tibet and Urumqi, a horrific list of mentally ill people who have been executed, and a regime which refuses to see or accept any criticism of its actions.
Because of China's immense monetary power, the world bows to that power, turning a blind eye to China's excesses and abuses.
But on this occasion, it isn't something which happened in Beijing, the assault on Russel Norman took place in our Parliament buildings, a Parliament of which he is an elected member.
People are making a fuss because there was no "assault" in the classical sense that he wasn't hurt, so he should get over it.
On that front, let's have a look at the actual assault as recorded by TV1:

Now, compare that with the "assault" on John Key on Waitangi Day last year:

To me, they are identical.
The two who assaulted John Key were both sentenced to prison, and note the immediate response of the Diplomatic Protection Squad.
No protection shown for Norman, whose attackers have escaped penalty or censure.
Had this happened 100 years ago in England, England would have sent a battleship to shell Chinese cities, as punishment - the assault on Norman, in our own Parliament grounds, is an act of war.
Hail Mammon, god of the people!
