Len Brown - again.

In some ways, Len Brown is an admirable character.

Much in the same way that Al Capone was an admirable character - cunning, ruthless and committed to a goal.

Len's latest foray is in breaking the rules regarding using public money for election campaigns. He has a team of six media people on his staff, costing the Auckland ratepayers around $500,000 a year.

Their job is to tell the public what a wonderful job Brown is doing, and I have no doubt it will work. Brown has already been voted "one of the ten best mayors in the world" in some astonishing bullshit organised wank-fest. Apparently the votes were made by the general public in the cities involved, yet I do not know a single person who was invited to vote, and I sure wasn't. In fact, you had to be in the know to vote, and Brown cohorts of helpers ensured that only people favourable to him voted.

If someone can point to a single positive thing Brown has done for Auckland, I'd be pleased if they would let me know, because all I've seen is rates for businesses increase, plans for parks and pools being shelved, and Brown spending ever-increasing amounts of money promoting himself.

There is no question Brown will be re-elected this year; there are no strong opponents, and Brown's bullshit-artists have done a fantastic job in instilling a belief Brown is good for Auckland.

The most disgraceful part of the whole saga is that Brown was ironically elected by the brown vote - Pasifika people in particular flocked to his banner and churches exhorted their congregations to vote Clown in. Yet under his stewardship, Pasifika people have gone backwards as rents skyrocket and Brown protects property investors by slowing new land for development.

All of this is without touching on the already-known fact that Brown is incapable of handling his own expense account without cheating. Yet we are about to give him a budget of billions again.

During Clown's time as mayor, Auckland's public debt has increased to a whopping 5 billion dollars, increasing by a billion during 2012 alone. I bet all of the 1165 people in Auckland City's employment who earn over $100k annually will vote for him!

The debt situation is horrendous and will be a burden for ratepayers for decades to come, and yet again, the hardest-hit will be those stupid decile 1 and 2 voters who sent Brown to Queen St in the first place.
