A 21st Century Proposal

In the 1930s, the world didn't know what was going on in German concentration camps, and when the truth came out in the '40s, the sights that met the eyes of the soldiers and civilians demanded that the perpetrators be held accountable, and to this very day Nazis are imprisoned for the acts of horror they committed or enabled.

In 2016, it would be just another piece of war porn.

Dead Jews in a lime pit? I'll raise you a seven year old kid holding a freshly severed head.

The firebombing of Dresden? I'll raise you half a million Yazidi.

Some months ago, when the photo of the Syrian dad holding his drowned son went viral, everyone thought they cared about the refugee crisis for a day or two, and most likely donations to charities trying to help these people made a little more than usual.

The refugees haven't gone away, but it's boring now, so we're back to nobody really caring much about the Middle Eastern refugees beyond trying out how to keep the numbers down.

That, there is a solution for, and a humanitarian one at that.

As outlined in the Chilcot Report released in England two days ago, Blair & Bush knew the Middle East would crumble with a destabilised Iraq, and it certainly did, so we, the people of the west, own the problem and it's therefore our responsibility to fix it, so here we are.

Instead of allowing the refugees to be exploited by unscrupulous scum who use all manner of unsafe vessel, we start off with putting refugees in hotels and using liners so they can rest and travel in comfort.

On arrival in Europe, they are sorted, a little like what happens at Hogwarts, with people directed to one of four queues.

The first queue will be the able-bodied and skilled workers. If they get a company to sponsor them, they go ahead an migrate, otherwise they re-join Q4.

The second queue is all the good-looking women aged 16 and over. China and many other countries are desperately short of women of child-bearing age, so this is a chance to fix that. The women could have a choice of where they go - to a new country and life, or Q4.

The third queue is all of the children, who will be put up for adoption. With sterility an enormous problem in the west, combined with few adoption candidates, these kids could be adopted out to would-be parents. If not, they can just go to Q4.

Queue four will move to a hotel, where every comfort will be offered while stringent medical tests are undertaken for every person. Details of blood & tissue types will be recorded and the people left to live in luxury.

Pending a request for one of their organs.

At this time, needing an organ donation is a risky business. You need to be near death to qualify, and lots of people die waiting for an organ. Even then, organ donors are generally dead, and little is known about the health history of the donor, or what damage it may have incurred. Time constraints make trans-continental moving impossible, so having a living group of donors will be an ideal answer - no waiting, no medical requirement, just match up and go.

Sure, the donor is likely to die - or certain to die if it's a heart being harvested - but they're of no worth anyway, were highly likely to die, and cause aid charities to be overrun. This plan solves all of those problems and many refugee donors will live many happy years in comfort. Much better that than scrounging for scraps at a Calais refugee camp.

It's not like anyone cares enough to save the refugees, so this is the obvious plan: humane and caring. Those people will be comforted by the fact that their worthless life has been given to help a rich person live longer - what on earth could be more noble than that?

Let's do it!

Thanks to Jonathan Swift for A Modest Proposal, and the Egyptian and Eritrean criminals who have already started playing.
