The concept of legal tender in NZ is quite clear, with all banknotes carrying
the status of legal tender in this country under the Reserve Bank Act.
Yet, the NZ Government itself will not accept this medium of payment at
Immigration NZ.
Their form number INZ 1015 contains a piece of small print stating that NZ
currency is not an acceptable form of payment and payments must be made by
EFTPOS, credit card or bank cheque.
No small irony in the NZ Government accepting cheques from Australian banks but
not its own legal tender.
Quite amazing that a government can deny its own currency. They should really stop putting "This note is legal tender for ......" on the money.
It isn't.
